Salmonell Outbreak May Be Associated with Tomatoes

Produce is again making people sick. The CDC has identified an outbreak of Salmonella infections and suspects the source is fresh produce, possibly tomatoes. The Salmonella outbreak has sickened at least 172 people. Of those, 11 have been hospitalized.

The Salmonella outbreak has sickened people in at least 18 states, including Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont and Wisconsin.

Tomatoes have been the source of numerous Salmonella outbreaks, including one that sickened over 400 people in 16 states and was linked to sliced Roma tomatoes sold at Sheetz gas station deli counters.
