Pistachio Nut Salmonella Recall
CONSUMER ALERT: FDA is advising consumers not to eat any brand of shelled or unshelled pistachios, or any food products containing pistachios, such as baked goods, trail mix, and other snack foods, until FDA determines which pistachios and pistachio products are affected by the recall being conducted by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. ("Setton"), also called Setton Farms.
An Illinois based candy and nut company has recalled a variety of products containing pistachios that could be contaminated with Salmonella bacteria.
Georgia Nut Company said in a letter to customers that it detected the problem while sampling and testing pistachio nuts from a third-party supplier from California. Georgia Nut CEO Rick Drehobl said no illnesses are known to be related to the recall.
In conjunction with the Food and Drug Administration, Georgia Nut also said there is no relationship to the ongoing Salmonella Typhimurium outbreak caused by contaminated peanuts and peanut paste from Peanut Corporation of America.
Distribution of the potentially contaminated pistachio products from Georgia Nut was in Wauwatosa, Wisc., Greenfield, Wisc., and the greater Chicago area. The specifics of the recall are as follows:
- Bulk Deluxe Mixed Nuts with shelled pistachios purchased at the Not Just Nuts store in Wauwatosa, WI from Dec. 5, 2008 through March 24, 2009.
- Bulk or custom packaged Deluxe Mixed Nuts with shelled pistachios purchased at Georgia Nut retail stores in Skokie and Glenview, IL, Georgia Nut’s Chocolate House location in Greenfield, WI, and through the Company’s website from Dec 11, 2008 through March 23, 2009,
- Bulk or custom packaged Dry Roasted Shelled Pistachios purchased at Georgia Nut retail stores in Skokie and Glenview, IL, Georgia Nut’s Chocolate House location in Greenfield, WI, and through the Company’s website purchased from Dec 3, 2008 through March 23, 2009.
- Mixed Nuts Deluxe Roasted and Salted Bulk with shelled pistachios purchased from clear plastic bulk bins in the produce department at Dominick’s Finer Food stores in the greater Chicagoland area from Dec. 10, 2008 through March 25, 2009.
Some of the products also were sold online, the company said.

Just bought a 28 oz. bag of Walgreens Select 100% California Naturally opened Jumbo Pistachios. These aredistributed by Walgreen Co. out of Deerfield IL. Is this a concern with the salmonella or not?
A lot of the recalled pistachios were sold in bulk. You should contact Walgreens and ask them if the pistachios you purchased are recalled.
Dominicks in Rogers Park, Chicago sells bags of Pistachios by a company called "Wonderful Pistachios" and we just bought another one a few days ago. I went on their site and nothing was mentioned about a possible recall. These pistachios are packed by Paramount Farms in Los Angeles for Cal-Pure Pistachios, Inc. Should we be worried as we eat them all the time !! Pls respond to: "cmcollins46@yahoo.com". Thank you for any assistance offered.

I purchased dry roasted & salted pistachios in shell named "Wonderful Pistachios" from Market Basket in Merrimack, NH on March 29th. These pistachios are packed by Paramount Farms in Los Angeles for Cal-Pure Pistachios, Inc. Are they infected with salmonella or not?
Thanks
I had recently purchased a bag of pistachios from walmart now two weeks later I am very sick. Were these nuts recalled and could it take that long to get sick?
Our law firm is being contacted by several people who are ill and are not sure if they have been sickened by Salmonella-contaminated pistachios. If you are ill, please get medical attention as soon as possible and have the doctor test for Salmonella poisoning. If you are diagnosed with a Salmonella infection, please contact us about your case: 1-888-377-8900 (toll free). Salmonella food poisoning cases are a specialty area of the law, and we represent victims of Salmonella outbreaks throughout the United States.
For those of you concerned about the pistachios you have purchased, please contact the retailer and ask if the pistachios are part of the recall. Many of the recalled pistachios were sold in bulk, so it is not possible for our law firm to know where all of the pistachios were sold.
What about pistachios from Lot# 0814104856001 C C packed by Paramount Farms Inc. for Cal-Pure Pistachios Inc. under a trademark license from Sinkist Growers Inc., bought in Covington, LA?
I also too purchased a 28 oz of Walgreen Select pistachios for 7.99 on March 30th @ 7:19p (says my receipt). Between then and this morning, i've ate every little one in that bag. I started to feel sick yesterday, dizzy, tired and with a headache. I'm not sure if this is caused by the pistachios but I just called the store to question the store manager to see if anything had been recalled. He said the only ones that came off the selves were from "Planners". The ones I bought are grown and harvested from my home state, California. I wanna puke but in trying to hold it down, I am dizzy but too tired to go to the hospital. I want to sleep it off! Will it go away tomorrow? My head hurts!

For all of those people who have contacted our law firm about the safety of recently-purchased pistachios, below is new information about a website that lists the safe pistachio products. Anyone wondering if a certain brand of pistachios is safe should go to www.pistachiorecall.org (not .com).
New pistachio recall information:
Pistachio growers have announced a new website for consumers - www.pistachiorecall.org - that lists specific pistachio products and brands that are confirmed safe to consume.
The Web site is produced by CAL-PURE, a co-op of California pistachio growers ("CAL-PURE"), and the Western Pistachio Association ("WPA") and is accessible directly and via a link on the FDA Web site at www.fda.gov/pistachios.
