Ohio Listeria Cases
In the last four weeks, Ohio health officials reported 6 cases of Listeria monocytogenes to the Centers of Disease Control (CDC). With only a total of 48 cases of Listeria reported, Ohio had about 10% of the cases. This seems to be a high percentage for one of 50 states.
It is often difficult to pinpoint the source of a Listeria infection (listeriosis) because the incubation period can be as long as 70 days. We looked back at the products recalled by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the last 70 days.
There were two recalls due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination within the last 70 days that were distributed in Ohio:
- Monterey Mushrooms recalled about 10,000 cases of fresh sliced white mushrooms and fresh sliced baby bella mushrooms. Read more about the mushroom recall due to Listeria.
- Future Foods, Ltd. recalled the following products that were made with imitation crab meat: Supreme Krab Dip, Krab Dip Supreme, Krab Log, Cajun Smoked Salmon Flavored Spread, Krab Artichoke Spinach Dip, Krab Dip, Cajun Krab Dip, Jalapeno Krab Dip, Cajun Crawfish Salad, and Smoked Salmon Flavored Spread. These products were sold under the brand names of Salads of the Sea, Hen House, Southern Home and Fisherman's Market. Read more about the imitation crab dip recall due to Listeria.
