Listeria Recall: Imitation Crab Dip
The FDA has announced the recall of imitation crab dip due to possible Listeria contamination. Our law firm has represented several victims of Listeria outbreaks and provides Listeria recall information as a public service. Listeria monocytogenes poisoning (listeriosis) is a serious foodborne illness that kills 25% of its victims in the United States each year. The very young, elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are the most at risk. Pregnant women are at at greater risk for contracting listeriosis, which can cause miscarriages and stillbirths. The recalled imitation crab dip (Krab Supreme Dip and Supreme Krab Dip) was sold under the brands Salads of the Sea, Hen House and Fisherman's Market. The recalled imitation crab dip was distributed in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas in the retail stores of Winn-Dixie, Harris Teeter, Kash n Karry, Ball's and Hen House. The description of the imitation crab dip in the FDA recall announcement is as follows:
The product [imitation crab dip]was sold under the Salads of the Sea, Hen House and Fisherman's Market brands and is packaged in 7-oz and 12-oz round and rectangular shaped containers. The use by code date on the product is August, 23, 2006 (8/23/06) and will be indicated on either the top or bottom of the container. Lot code for the product is 06186.
Routine testing of the imitation crab dip revealed that a package of the finished product contained Listeria monocytogenes. This recall underscores the need for more frequent testing for Listeria monocytogenes and other foodborne pathogens in ready-to-eat products.

Symptoms of crab meat poisoning?
Gary,
The symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes are as follows:
A person with listeriosis has fever, muscle aches, and sometimes gastrintestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. If infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions can occur.
Infected pregnant women may experience only a mild, flu-like illness; however, infections during pregnancy can lead to miscarraige or stillbirth, premature delivery, or infection of the newborn.
If you have eaten imitation crab meat and are experiencing any of these symptoms, you need to see a medical professional. If you are diagnosed with listeriosis (Listeria infection), contact a lawyer regarding your legal rights and remedies. To contact Pritzker | Ruohonen, see above.
