Shernoff's Potato Salad Recall -- Listeria
Pritzker | Ruohonen, lead attorneys in a major Listeria recall lawsuit, provide Listeria recall information as a public service. The FDA has announced the recall of Shernoff's brand Potato Salad because Listeria was discovered in both environmental and product samples. The FDA found Listeria in the room where Shernoff's Potato Salad was manufactured and in the finished product.
According to the news release regarding the Shernoff's Potato Salad recall:
The potato salad was sold in 5-, 10- and 30-lb. plastic containers which were date coded "Use by 6/15/06." The product was distributed to processors in Pennsylvania and New Jersey who redistributed it in smaller containers to delis and restaurants. The labeling on the smaller containers is unknown therefore we recommend that if you bought potato salad from a deli in either Pennsylvania or New Jersey between 5/18/06 and 6/15/06 that you do not consume any that may be remaining.(1)
Listeria poisoning (listeriosis) has flu-like symptoms. A person with listeriosis has fever, muscle aches, and sometimes gastrintestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. If infection spreads to the nervous system, symptoms such as headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, or convulsions can occur.(2)
If you ate Shernoff's Potato Salad while pregnant, you should be aware that infections during pregnancy can lead to miscarraige or stillbirth, premature delivery, or infection of the newborn. A Listeria infection may be harmful to your unborn child even if the symptoms are mild.(2)
